Racing and equestrian sport are built on generations of breeding, horsemanship and competition, with established institutions, rules and international networks. In New Zealand, racing operates within legislation and independent integrity oversight, with a dedicated Minister for Racing. Equestrian sport has its own national governing body and international competition framework.
International market access
New Zealand horses are bred and developed for buyers at home and overseas. Recognised bloodstock sales, specialist agents, private transactions and export services connect producers with international racing and equestrian markets. For Pegasus, this means preparing horses for their intended buyers and connecting breeding and development with routes to sale.

How value is created.
Thoroughbreds: racing, breeding and trade
Wagering-related revenue helps fund racing and prize money, supporting participation and demand for bloodstock. Pegasus breeds, develops and trades thoroughbreds. Sales provide revenue, with racing and breeding income where applicable. Commercial results depend on these revenues relative to the full costs of producing, caring for, developing, racing and selling each horse.
Sport horses: recognising potential, developing value
Value begins with recognising potential before it is fully developed. Our investment committee brings specialist judgement to selection, assessing each horse’s strengths, limitations and a practical route to improvement. Targeted care and training then develop that potential and demonstrate progress.
Our sales channels and professional service support help buyers assess horses and complete their purchases with confidence. Pegasus seeks a margin when sale proceeds exceed the full costs of breeding or acquisition, care, development and sale.

Our investment committee brings together expertise in bloodstock selection, equine health and behaviour, and commercial valuation. These perspectives are considered together to assess a horse’s potential, its limitations and a practical route to development. The aim is a fuller assessment before capital is committed. The team’s racing record shows this selection approach in practice.
